To Geek Or Not To Geek

This is me.

Judging by my relative size and lack of facial hair, it's safe to say this is probably around when I was a junior in college.

Already I can hear my wife saying "another blog?!" I mean, it's not like I have three others on which I basically never post anyway. In my defense, though, I have no excuse.

Why this particular blog and that particular name? Well, as you can see by the above photo, I am a nerd and always have been.

Exhibit A: the above photo of me as a Superman superfan

Exhibit B: I wore a Star Trek uniform to class in 9th grade (to the eternal embarrassment of my sister) on a dare

Exhibit C: I spent untold dollars on collectible card games themed after pop culture pillars like Trek or Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings (even The X-Files)

Exhibit D: my work desk

I pick up nerd fandoms like they're Harold's doughnuts (if you follow me on Twitter you know my obsession). I can geek out for hours about Star Wars, Star Trek, the Lord of the Rings, Warcraft, Marvel, DC, LOST, and of late, Brandon Sanderson. 

It's in my nature to nerd out. Geek out. Dork out?

Regardless, I want this to be a space to share my nerdity. I want it separate from my main blog, which if I can keep it going would be more of a space for personal reflection or introspection and such.

Movies, TV, LEGOs, the Russian language, music - it's all on the dejarik table here.

Oh, the blog name? It's a shoutout to the Nerd Nook, my own personal nerd space at home, a corner in the basement where I get to put my inner geek on full display.
